The BDG Dominates Again

In BDG, Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, Chess on January 2, 2015 at 6:03 pm

I love playing the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit. Here’s a game I played against a long time friend from Florida (Bill) who is also a strong player and has beaten me in many a game.

KingLeopold (1652) – chessmates55 (1634)

1.d4 d5 2.e4 {Thematic Game – This is the starting position.}

(Bill gives me a nice gift of a pop up target) 15.Qh4 Qa5 16.Bxh6 gxh6 17.Qxh6+ Kg8 18.Re3!! (and there is no saving Blacks position) 1-0

Mate in 13

In BDG, Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, Chess on November 25, 2014 at 1:08 am

In this game my opponent slips up and allows me to mate him on the 13th move, so he went ahead and resigned.

Another Fine Win with the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit

Two Games Same Theme

In BDG, Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, Chess on February 25, 2013 at 3:19 am

Recently I won two games online, both, though different openings, allowed me to play the same attacking theme. The first was a tournament game against one of my co-works Coach Alfredo Garcia:

But I was counting on my opponent to… } …O-O?! {This allowed me to follow through with my vicious plan of attack }  11.Rxf5!

Now I don’t want anyone to think Alfredo is a push over as he recently won 1st place in his division at the Tempe Open

My second game was an online game against Mike Nikitin of Michigan.

Even the Strong Fall

In BDG, Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, Chess, Correspondance on July 27, 2012 at 3:31 pm

It’s rare when I get a win against my young friend Jeffery Poppell. My last game against him resulted in a hard-fought draw after 63 moves. But even the strong must fall here and there against the mighty Blackmar-Diemer Gambit in less that 25 moves as I take him down for only the 4th time in 15 games.

Leopold Lacrimosa (1656) – Jeffery Poppell (1815)

Who will protect the King? Shirley, it’s not going to be left up to the pawns? 17…Qb6 18.Re5! Now the heavy pieces come into play. Notice where Black’s rooks are. 18…cxb3 19.Rxh5! Like the Orc in Lord of the Rings sacrificing itself to blow a hole in the castle wall 19…gxh5 20.Qg5+ The Queen steps into the breach and there is no one able to come and save the King. 20…King moves 21.Qg7# mate is inevitable.
This gives me a score against Jeffery as 4W/ 8L/ 3D
